My Journey

How it started -

The reflections began in my journal entries. A subtle nudge was telling me “something’s missing”.

7.21.21

I feel like I just woke up from a 4 year nap, where I was just going through the motions, trying to avoid certain feelings rather than thinking about what I really wanted.

7.29.21

If I don’t change this, will a part of me always feel like i just settled? …and always be a little jealous when I hear how other people were brave enough to make hard decisions and struggle through that time alone but in the end it all turns out to be worth it. …and it’s better than they could have imagined.

2.25.22

The problem I’m having is that I have absolutely no idea what I want to do…How do I identify my own true desires?

The Turning Point -

Finding inspiration from Glennon Doyle -

Something’s off about my life. I feel restless and frustrated. I have this hunch that everything was supposed to be more beautiful than this.” - Glennon Doyle

“How does she know my life” I thought as I read this line from her bestselling book, Untamed.

Glennon describes a scene where she is at the Zoo with her daughter, watching Tabitha, a cheetah born into captivity who has never known the wild savannah.

They notice a moment when Tabitha turns ‘wild’, gazing off into the distance as if she can see the life outside her fenced-in world. Glennon pictures Tabitha envisioning the wild, thinking “something’s off about my life…”. The wild seems to be so real, she can almost taste it. But then Tabitha sadly turns back to her cage.

Glennon imagines Tabitha saying “I should be grateful. I have a good enough life here. It’s crazy to long for what doesn’t even exist.”

“Tabitha.” Glennon silently responds, “You are not crazy. You are a goddamn cheetah.”

Reclaiming My Power -

The real transformation began when I learned how to look for the answers within. The decision to invest in myself back in 2021 and work with a somatic coach changed my life. My coach first helped me reconnect with my inner wisdom through body based methods, introducing me to the very practices I now use today.

Through learning how to access my own inner wisdom, I gained the power to -

  • To trust in my intuition

  • To make truly aligned decisions

  • To move beyond fear, make the bold move and create what I most want in life

  • To see limitless possibilities where I used to only see obstacles

  • And to feel ALIVE in the process.

Fast forward to March 2025 - I am confident, grounded, aligned, reclaiming my power of choice, and actively creating a life that I love.

I started my own coaching practice after seeing in myself just how impactful this work can be. What I’m able to create for myself now, is beyond young Alana’s wildest dreams.

Behind The Name:

The name “To My Dear Little Self” carries a legacy of self-love and implicit trust. Inspired by a note that my late grandmother wrote to herself in her high school graduation book. This simple yet powerful message of self-acknowledgement, especially from a woman of her time is inspiring and served as a powerful reminder.

Alana and her Grandmother 1996

I find everything is in alignment if I stay open to the possibilities. Finding this note at the exact time I needed to hear it was a true assurance that yes, I can be proud of my accomplishments and be my own biggest supporter.

It perfectly encapsulates my mission: to help women embrace their biggest dreams and one day look back, filled with love and compassion from living their most authentic life. They say to their younger selves with pride, "I always knew you could do it."

To My Dear Little Self
I knew you would make it.
So keep up the good work.
